Do you have an idea for a Movie? Then join Movies By Kids In this “Hollywood” style studio class where students create, storyboard, and animate their own cut-out cartoons using the art of stop-motion-animation. In addition, they will learn story structure, camera angles, and other creative filmmaking techniques. Students will operate digital video equipment, supply voices for their characters, and by the end of class, they will have created their own animated short film. Lego Storytelling:
Do your kids love Legos? Now they can use one of their favorite toys to tell their very own stories! We will help your children storyboard and photograph each scene in their story. The ideas will be theirs, the sets will be built by them, and we will help them operate the cameras to capture their stories in a visual and memorable format that will be yours to treasure. After all the scenes have been created, the kids will provide a narrative voice over and choose the music that best fits their movie. This class is the ultimate place to play with Legos and learn how to tell a story. All stories will be available to view at www.moviesbykids.com!
MOVIES BY KIDS is a creative program designed for teaching young students the exciting process of movie making and animation. This unique “Hand’s On” program offers children the opportunity to conceive, write, produce and direct their own, animated movies, live action shorts and special effects segments in one of our in school, after school, summer camp programs. Movie By Kids has been running these programs successfully to an expanding number of cites inside and outside of California. The Movies By Kids web site is an extensive, interactive site that allows everyone access to program information, on-line registration, or simply to view some of our favorite student projects on the web site. Our goal is to enable children to “experience their imagination” in a safe, nurturing environment, with an age appropriate curriculum taught by industry professionals who know what They’re doing and love what they do.
Art Studio – 3rd to 5th;
Instructor: Adrien PladysThroughout the semester, the children will discover different artistic methods such as sculpting, drawing, painting, 3D creation, collage…In the beginning of each class, depending on the project, a presentation and a discussion about an artist will take place. Different methods will be reviewed and learned (ex: how to hold the paint brush, brush strokes, etc.). These techniques will then be used to create the proposed project. Some projects may take more than one session to complete.
Adrien was born and raised in northern France and moved to Los Angeles 8 years ago. He holds an art degree from the “Beaux Arts de Dunkerque” and has been an avid soccer player for most of his life. He quickly found his place at LILA as a student supervisor, camp counselor, art instructor, and soccer coach. This will be his 4th year as an after-school art teacher, mixing fun and technique to bring out students’ imagination.
Choir – K to 5th;
Instructor: Mara BaygulovaAn eclectic choice of songs to be sung in harmony and unison. Traditional classic children’s songs to more advanced classical literature including musical theatre. Learning to sing in different languages, the class offers the skill of proper breathing for developing accurate intonation and dynamic control. Ear training with proper vowel production allows the voice to grow in range and power.
Mara Baygulova has studied piano since 3 years old, cello since 7 years old, and voice since the age of 5. At 8 years old Mara studied Mara classical guitar and lute for 5 years and gives recitals of Shakespearian songs with lute. She made her operatic debut in France singing the role of CARMEN for French television. Since then, Mara has sung with major opera houses all over the world. San Diego Opera, Houston Opera, Seattle Opera, Miami Opera, Hawaii Opera, Brussels, Strasbourg, Anges and Nantes to name a few. In between her concert schedule, Mara teaches voice and piano in her private studio and has been an instructor with LILA for 4 years.
Crochet – 3rd to 5th
Instructor: Tina TamamianLearning individual and group development through the art and craft of crochet (how to thread yarn) in a bilingual English/French setting. The children are introduced to the first steps of threading yarn (crochet) and basic techniques: Proper technique to hold crochet hook. Understand patterns. Learn the variety of crochet hook point(s). Blend colors harmoniously. Start a project. After the students have acquired the skills of the first steps they progress to an intermediate/advanced level allowing them to create their own pieces for their own personal use and/or gifts.
Soccer Clinic 1 – K & 1st
Instructor: Hollywood Soccer AcademyFor young players who are new to the sport and want a fun introduction to soccer. Learn about soccer through fun and games in a safe, playful learning environment. A creative curriculum which includes: activation time, fun & games. Children are introduced to how to kick the ball correctly and are given exposure to different positions. Through fun, non-competitive games, children are taught how to turn the ball, shoot and play simple games. The objective for children is to have fun, work with a ball, and be aware of their teammates and opponents surrounding them. Each situation will be related to a ball and turned into a game situation.
Hollywood Soccer Academy believes that roper coaching techniques enhance the soccer IQ of the player and we feel that this is a tremendous step for their development. Each training session is designed to help players achieve their maximum potential through progressive exercises that are age appropriate and individually and developmentally challenging.

Soccer Clinic 2 – 2nd to 5th;
Instructor: Hollywood Soccer AcademyIn the beginning, children are introduced to the rules of the game, taught how to kick the ball correctly, and they are given exposure to different soccer positions. Through fun, non-competitive games, children are taught how to turn the ball, dribble, shoot, and play simple games. After a few weeks, children are introduced to the fundamentals of the different tactics, such as passing the ball, attack and defense moves, and keeping the ball away from and taking the ball from the opposing team. Children learn to score and prevent goals. Physical endurance and fitness is emphasized while touching the ball. At this age, the focus starts to change from simple games to organized, tactical, competitive games.
